What is a washplane, and how is it different from a regular basin?
A washplane replaces the usual bowl with a flat or gently sloping surface that drains into a narrow concealed slot, usually at the back or side. There’s no visible plug hole, so the result looks very minimal, and it’s popular in boutique hotels and modern villas. Because the slope does the work of guiding water away, the angle has to be right. If it’s too shallow, water lingers on the surface. If it’s too steep, the washplane is less practical for handwashing.
What height should vanity countertops be?
Most bathroom vanity countertops sit between about 80cm and 90cm from the floor. That’s higher than the older 75cm standard, which many adults find uncomfortably low. If you’re using a vessel basin on top of the counter, lower the countertop to allow for the basin’s height, so the rim ends up at a comfortable level. In a children’s bathroom, a lower top or a built-in step makes daily use easier.
Is the drain slot on a washplane hard to keep clean?
