FAQs

Why is it called Korean marble?

The name comes from where many of the best-known solid surface brands are made. South Korean companies manufacture several leading acrylic solid surface ranges. Over time, contractors and buyers in the Gulf began using Korean marble as shorthand for the whole category, even for products made elsewhere. It isn’t a type of stone, and none of it is quarried in Korea.

They’re often confused, but they behave differently. Quartz is very hard and resists scratches well, but its seams are visible, and chips are difficult to repair invisibly. Artificial marble is softer, so it can be bonded with nearly invisible joints, thermoformed into curves, and sanded back if it gets damaged. If you want seamless shapes, integrated sinks, or curved forms, solid surface is the better fit. Quartz is better if scratch resistance matters more than flexibility.

No. Many low-cost cultured marble vanities have only a thin glossy gel coat over a cast base. Once that coat is scratched or chipped through, the damage can’t be blended out. Quality solid surface is through-body, which means the color and pattern run all the way through the sheet. A deep scratch on a Korean marble top can be sanded and refinished, and the surface underneath looks exactly the same.

Yes, and it works very well for them. Large solid panels replace tiles in the shower, so there’s no grout to discolor or grow mold. Corners can be coved, and niches, benches, and shower trays can be made in the same material. Artificial marble shower walls need a properly waterproofed wall behind them and correct sealing at the tray and around any glass. Those details decide whether the installation stays watertight for years.

That depends on the resin. Products made with 100% acrylic resin hold their color well, even in white and pale shades. Cheaper blends that use polyester resin, or a mix of resins, are more likely to yellow, especially near windows or under strong lighting. If you’re choosing a light Korean marble shade for a sunny room or outdoor, ask whether the sheets supplied is applicable for outdoor use before you place the order.
